Meet

Tapistry was established in 2020 after COVID-19 shut down the world. During lockdown, we continued developing our music, originals, and cover songs and working on new material in preparation for the day when life returned to a new normal. We began putting together the tracks that would become our first album, anxiously awaiting the first chance to start recording.

Tom’s longtime friend and music producer, Randy Wills, recorded and sound-produced our first studio album, The Other Side. Being a master of the keys, Randy also joined on several tracks, adding unique and wonderful keyboard parts to the songs. Today, Tapistry plays for fundraising events, dinner clubs, and various other venues.

About Us

The band Tapistry is formed by Kansas-based musical duo Tom Forbes and Theresa Mix. Tom plays the guitar, Theresa plays the keys and they sing together on most tracks.

Meet Tom

Known as the “Mick Jagger of Gardner, Kansas,” Tom Forbes has been in the music scene for over 50 years, since he first stepped on stage with his high school band, Carousel. He's now been singing and playing for generations.

During the 1970s, Tom started writing and performing his own music, ranging from pop-styles to country, but his favorite style is soul. In the mid-1990s he released a self-produced CD, to little fanfare.

He's since reimagined many of the songs with his sweetheart and bandmate, Theresa, and decided to try recording again. Old tracks found new life on their 2022 album, The Other Side. With the help of Theresa and their recording producer at Exceptions Studio, Tom feels the songs are “what they should have been in the first place.”

Meet Theresa

Theresa has been in music her entire life. From her childhood days singing in school plays and choirs, Theresa’s love for music seemed to come naturally from growing up in a musical family.

At age 10, Theresa’s father taught her how to play the trumpet, which she continues to play to this day. Theresa and her father played trumpet duets for special occasions, and her mother would accompany on the piano. Both of her parents were vocalists and when Theresa’s little sister was old enough to sing, people often joked and called the quartet “The Singing Mix’s.”

Music has always been an important element in Theresa’s life and she credits it for getting her through the tough times in her life. It's her form of therapy, whether she’s playing, singing, or just listening. Her musical tastes range from classical to classic metal, but one of her favorites is Old Rock-n-Roll.
